Define  ‘dvd decoder’ ?

GOOGLED: Wiki DVD decoder

#1: Starting with what DVD is, .. >>> DVD, also known as Digital Versatile Disc or Digital Video Disc, is an optical disc storage media format, and was founded in 1995. Its main uses are video and data storage. DVDs are of the same dimensions as compact discs (CDs), but store more than six times as much data.

#2: DVD-Video is a consumer video format used to store digital video on DVD discs, and is currently the dominant consumer video format in Canada, Europe and Australia.[4] Discs using the DVD-Video specification require a DVD drive and a MPEG-2 decoder (e.g., a DVD player, or a DVD computer drive with a software DVD player). Commercial DVD movies are encoded using a combination of MPEG-2 compressed video and audio of varying formats (often multi-channel formats as described below). Typically, data rate for DVD movies range from 3 Mbit/s to 9.5 Mbit/s, and the bit rate is usually adaptive.

#3: How it might fit into the Micro$oft perspective – Plug-ins for Windows Media Player
Plug-ins are optional components that you can add to Windows Media Player to extend its functionality. For example, you can add audio, video, or rendering effects as well as DVD playback capabilities. To learn how to create plug-ins for Windows Media Player, see the Windows Media Player SDK.

AND FINALLY THIS; (Making your Micro$oft media player complete)

DVD Decoder (MPEG-2 Decoder) Plug-ins
Windows Media Player becomes a full-featured DVD player when combined with a DVD decoder (MPEG-2 decoder) with features such as full-screen video playback controls, DVD chapter listings, and integrated cover art.

#4: Video codec? -A video codec is a device or software that enables video compression and/or decompression for digital video.

Tag Cloud Limitations?

September 15, 2009

On my last two posts -  i have added one tag to each post,

Tag – FiveNines

Tag – Mystic

BOTH – Of these tags are not appearing in the tag cloud ?

QUESTION: Is there a limitation to the number of tags?

OBSERVATION: Both the WordPress Tag-Cloud and the cumulus tag-cloud are exhibiting this behaviour,

BUT: Ill wait a day or two before editing out these tags – there might be some little glitch going on with the backend of wordpress, or the servers that are hosting this site. (There is always a BUT in the way)

CORRECTION: The tag “Mystic” – is appearing! BUT: The “FiveNines” tag is stil NOT appearing in either of these tag-clouds.

It is a mystery – I must get to the bottom of this? (Or live with the mystery) – If I fix the problem – then Ill have to delete this post – I might be better off just living with the mystery. [FiveNines]

Codec

August 22, 2009

A codec is a device or computer program capable of encoding and/or decoding a digital data stream or signal. The word codec is a portmanteau (word used to mean a blend of two or more words) of ‘compressor-decompressor’ or, most accurately, ‘coder-decoder’.

Historically a modem was a contraction of modulator/demodulator (modem was called dataset by telcos) and converted digital data from computers to analog for phone line transmission. On the receiving end the analog was converted back to digital. CODECs did the opposite (convert audio analog to digital and then computer digital sound back to audio). There was no compression involved in CODECs, only coding and decoding.

THIS; Also fits into this category; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_codec
